I've come to realize our people are more xenophilic than most. The shape of my body alone would not put off too many.
But I am a demon. The ignorant fear I would taint them. To the learned nobles, I am a weakling who could not endure the taint, or an agent of the Nidrachal, or a monster pretending I am still an elf to prey on them. Those things do make it difficult.
Waggle your eyebrows all you like, I think spending time with you will be very educational. So long as you are conscious for pillow talk.
ignorant definitely seems like the right word. does it bother you? or rather on the grander scale of things how badly does it affect you, is maybe a better way to voice the question.
hey all the eyebrow waggling going on over here is ultra subtle flirting vibes because i forgot how much a nice conversation makes me want an actual relationship. but that's a whole other topic i suppose
you know with most people i'd say "of course I'll be conscious!!!" but with other non-human races i've learned the lesson, so just give me your best when the time comes, ok? i want to fairly assess the results with you for educational purposes
I could spend many pages answering in detail, but yes. It affects me. There are many things I can no longer do, or am not likely to. But I once believed the only possible outcome was death. This is, in that sense, a blessing.
If your subtlety is the measure of how badly you need some attention I think I should visit you soon. But what do you mean by an actual relationship? Surely you find some of your lovers worth keeping up with?
...I was going to say I was teasing, but when you put it like that I feel like I have to now or you'll be disappointed.
i hope you'll tell me in person one day, but i also really hope that you don't feel like death is the only answer now. you know i'm here if you ever wanna just talk.
hahahah did you just call me needy? but you should absolutely visit me soon.
[That other question? Nariko doesn't know her. Nope.]
to be fair I was definitely kidding so there won't be any disappointment but you might get a lot of questions while i make breakfast or something. i mean, the differences can be genuinely fascinating after all. but also i wanna fuck. two birds one stone.
Friday comes soon enough, though perhaps not soon enough for Naal. She finds it fairly easy to dote on non-elves, but it's rare that she feels much of a connection to them, and it makes for a bit of real excitement on top of the usual enthusiasm for just getting laid after too long. Nariko may find it evident in getting a few more texts than necessary throughout the day about 'tonight' and how long until Naal arrives.
Though her appearance when she does turn up at Nariko's door is a total contrast to her slightly giddy anticipation. With her black on black on black coloration and style, burning eyes, and an imposing height that requires her to not just dip but truly duck under standard doors, a bystander could be forgiven for thinking she must be here for Nariko's soul.
But Nariko has a better vantage, albeit one that's probably going to leave her with a sore neck, and she can see Naal's small but constant smile, as well as her evergreen gift of wine and chocolates. The bottle of wine is huge, evidently from her hometown; the assorted chocolates are not, and look tiny in her hand.
"Hello," She greets. A deep voice as one would expect, but smooth and polished. She opens her arms in greeting... well, as much as the view from the door allows.
The texts are a relief in that Nariko didn't want to seem desperate, a side effect of her pride, but she was just as eager for their weekend date as Naal. The consistent texts made a series of boring lectures much more entertaining, and her thoughts bounced around what to cook for the weekend, or things that they could do outside of each other. That was always at the forefront, obviously, Nariko's curiosity was its own beast and it wouldn't be sated until she met with the elf in person. But it was a tiny bit more than that, too, even if she couldn't admit it just yet.
Her already spotless home was deep cleaned twice in the leading days. She reconsidered outfits, and only went for groceries four times on Friday morning. By the time the door opens she's half settled on a flowing summer dress that rests perfectly on a curvy form because she couldn't change into the clinigier, bodycon dress before Naal showed up. At least her current choice was easier to work around or simply take off.
"Hello yourself," Lucian had been 6'2 and Nariko vaguely remembered her father being just a little beyond that but Naal seems to have them easily beat! That smile makes it all worthwhile, though, and puts a wide, bright one on Nariko's red lips. "You realize I already want you for the weekend. Are you going for a full seven days?" There's a harmless laugh as she motions her guest in, reaches for the chocolates just to free Naal up a bit. "I'm sorry it's a short person's apartment, all the other grandchild got the Tall Lunae Genes."
Luckily her townhome had higher ceilings, only the doorways would require unfortunate stooping, the rooms themselves would hopefully be a little easier since she always had to account for various non-human clients or wayward souls. "How are you?" ... The only shame about Naal being tall was that Nariko couldn't find a smooth way to sneak in a little kiss, but oh well. The time might come around naturally.
Naal had settled on a basic out fit as well, wearing a halter top that showed off a generous amount of her broad shoulders with a simple above-knee skirt. Nose and ear studs and a wrist bangle, all silver, were the the only points of light to set off the otherwise uniformly flat black outfit. If Nariko kept seeing Naal she was quickly going to find out that this was a running theme in her fashion sense.
She laughed softly back at the greeting. "Already? If I'm not careful you may not let me go."
Naal didn't exactly sound put out by the prospect. Nor by the for-her slightly cramped architecture "It's fine, it looks lovely. And I've long grown used to these buildings; it's far more trouble for me to bring guests home."
"Well, I have been anticipating a date with a certain someone, so it's been an... exciting day. But please, let's sit. I don't want to strain your neck. And tell me, how long have you lived here? I'm so used to living in the family home I don't have a sense for these things."
"Oh, good, you already figured it out!" Is she joking? Being serious? Who knows. While the compliment to her home is appreciated Nariko does still consider that she should have made some adjustments - adjusting the height would have been easy with magic and nearly everything makes her feel short anyway! "Just tell me if anything is uncomfortable. But - Does that mean it'll be a while before I see your place, then?"
However, the request to sit is honored and Nariko leads them to her living room, and tries not too mentally fret over her furniture. It's still a bit larger than what might be considered normal but she was half tempted to adjust it for Naal. "Oh, please tell me about this beautiful, star chef of a certain someone, who was also anticipating a date!"
At least she hadn't been alone in her excitement! "Before I sit, do you want to open that now, or anything else to drink?" The wine was a valid option, though. Her glass coffee table could handle the immense bottle without any issue but she didn't want to assume, or have to leave too quickly once she could give Naal every ounce of her attention.
Perhaps it was better Nariko had let things be. However little she showed it, Naal had the body of a demon, and intricate magic was liable to falter and fail in her presence. Having a chair suddenly shrink as she sat on it would come off like a prank.
She nodded and didn't expand on the matter of her home. There were a few reasons for it, and she didn't think it would be very fun to start off the date by telling Nariko at length about the things that separated them.
"Vivacious, friendly, a good listener, a bit of a wit..." Naal sat at one end of the biggest sofa available, long legs sprawled out along it. "I've been led to believe she's quite an experience in bed, too."
Even against the faint glow of her eyes and her restrained expressions, there was a glint of mischief. Or maybe just lust.
"I am feeling thirsty. Bring over whatever you'd like."
Naal didn't particularly care whether Nariko took that as a cue to offer herself just minutes in the door, or made her wait a little. Anticipation and talk were also enjoyable. She was just having a little fun. Not something she had many opportunities for, or casual friends to share with.
Everyone had their topics and Nariko deftly accepted the non-answer there. It didn't feel like a topic worth pushing on, and if it had to be wrenched out then it wasn't her place to know it anyway. Besides, for as genuinely curious as Nariko was about the other woman she was very obviously distracted, her gaze swept from head to toe, admiring, appreciative, and lacking even a hint of subtlety before drifting back to those red eyes.
"She almost sounds like competition! I think I have a few tricks that can one-up such a beguiling example of femininity." Stop her, Naal, seriously. Waving a hand Nariko disappeared for the length of time it took to find two glasses, even her largest was probably a bit small for Naal but any unfortunate magic incidents were further avoided.
"You asked how long I've been here," Her eyes tilted to the pictures on shelves, the nicknacks. A mix of genuine warmth and artificial cold. "It's only been about three years. It's actually the first place I've had on my own."
She didn't usually do a lot of "talking" with her guests when they visited for fucking around but this was - well, it surprised her, how comfortable it was, even as she popped open the wine, its size didn't pose an issue for her. "Also, I know I have the rest of this entire room and you were trying to spare my neck, which is very sweet, but I really do just want to sit in your lap."
Nariko offered the large wine glass all the same, a little grin on her face. She was asking permission as much as she was being slightly dramatic for its own sake.
Naal, though, failed to stop her. The elf was used to being the serious, even dour end of a conversation, and letting others contribute some levity to balance things out. She thought she was doing pretty well being personable so far, but still there were things she wouldn't ever think to do. Like that silly, facetious boasting that took the joke a little past its expiration. It was the sort of small act that made Naal feel like Nariko wasn't trying too hard to match her or being guarded. The act of a friend and complement, however new.
Instead Nariko was rewarded with another flash of that grin, small but an unmistakable contrast on Naal's face.
"Were you with your family before that?" She asked curiously. "We're very different about what independence means."
Ageless elves, especially the nobility who could afford to support sprawling families, had their own approach with their children.
Naal took the glass but held it wide, leaving an obvious opening for Nariko as she patted her lap. "Come, you know there's no where else I'd rather have you."
It was a different experience for Naal, too. As they'd discussed before, most of the humans she'd met like this had narrow expectations of her. If they had an interest in talking at all it was in harrowing stories that confirmed her exotic and dangerous nature.
The true joy of a bad joke was result! Which was usually exasperated groaning or, as evidenced by what she was blessed with: A smile. Naal did, perhaps, come across a bit serious over text, but anyone who went as far as to call the elf "dour" would probably find themselves cursed for the next few days. Then again, she didn't have the most unbiased perspective, did she?
The invitation was barely out in the air before Nariko eased onto Naal's lap as if claiming something that had been waiting patiently for her. If she sat to one side then her legs still fell over the couch, but it was simpler to face the other woman without either of them suffering from the height difference too much. That, and it felt immediately comfy.
"Nowhere else, at all? Not in various positions or maybe in the bedroom, or up against a wall? I'd even be fine with ending up on the carpet." If the facetious joke earned her a smile then the purposefully dramatic wink while sipping at the wine was trying for a laugh, even just a chuckle! "Mm, but kind of? We lived with my mother as children, but I wouldn't say she contributed much. Then that home burned, and Nathan and I lived together for a while, and now he's in boarding school."
Naal shifted as Nariko climbed aboard, getting them nice and snugly settled in.
...and shifted again as Nariko rattled off her suggested alternatives, flushing slightly. Despite having barely sipped her wine she was in a suggestible mood right now, and imagined scenes flitted through her mind as fast as the other woman could describe them.
Rather than a laugh it produced a faux-disgruntled whine, more or less playing along. "You tease. Don't get nice and comfortable and then tell me I could have had better. She hung her head in resignation or perhaps to give Nariko a good disappointed stare... though her half-lidded eyes looked more sultry than anything, and it did put her lips in reach for that kiss Nariko had been hoping for, if she was willing to stretch a bit.
"Who says you can't have any of what I just brought up, and more?" She could never put a value on their ability to simply converse, especially since it wasn't very often that Nariko could be relaxed and honest with someone she barely knew. But they both had a shared ulterior motive, and there was nothing wrong with that. Couldn't be when Nariko found herself half-stuck under those gorgeous eyes.
"Besides, I only tease incredibly intelligent, tempting elves who remind me how stimulating a good discussion can be." The stretch is harmless, Nariko would have climbed a whole forest to lean up and press her lips to Naal's, deceptively soft and harmless. "Now, given that this same woman is also objectively gorgeous and comfy, you should really be praising me for my self control. I decided not to come off as desperate until at least ... Maybe after the second or third round."
"I know I can have it. But you're having fun making sure to wind me up a little first." Naal hardly sounded upset, and her lips brushed across Nariko's softly. But not for long. They were still trading words, after all, and like Nariko she appreciated that both as a slow, relaxed form of flirting and for its own sake. That wasn't to say Nariko hadn't taken hold of her attention, though, and there was a clink as her mostly-full wineglass was set aside on the table so that her hands could encircle her partner's waist.
"Your desperate side is a reward for me to earn, then? I wonder if you'll be even more beautiful like that than you are now." Though her voice was cool, this was the thought that caused her to chuckle. "Ah, what a thing for a daughter of Waes to say. I'm supposed to have presentable friends, not turn them into messes for my amusement."
One of her hands slowly ascended, tracing Nariko's spine through her dress with her fingers and then on into her hair, threading through it gently. Her tone shifted again, to something more openly playful and flirty.
But Naal was particularly fun to go back and forth with because she didn't seem as prone to overreaction. There was a sort of measured approach about her that was endearing, but it poked at the part of Nariko that liked a challenged, that wanted to play around just to see how long she could. It wasn't malicious but she knew that it registered that way, at times, especially with overly serious types. So the touch was a relief, another reminder that everything was still going well.
Which meant that she could sigh pleasantly at that touch, the eventual weight in her hair that saw her eyes closing briefly.
"Oh, of course not," She had to correct herself with a harmless eye roll. "A bra, actually, but only because I wanted them to look their best. Feel free to take that off whenever you'd like." It just went with the dress, mostly, and she was the type to revel in exposing cleavage. Still leaning up, little kisses snuck their way along Naal's jaw, more affectionate and gentle than inherently sexual.
"'Daughter of Waes'?" The wording was ambiguous, hence the question. That could have been her father's actual name, or he might be important, or it could be where she was from, and Nariko lacked the attention span to go for an educated guess.
Naal smiled at the relaxed expression, stroking Nariko's head and making another pass through her hair.
"A good idea. Any time we're talking I'm looking down your shirt." One of the happy consequences of their height difference... and if she'd been planning on expanding on that, Nariko's kisses put an end to it, stilling her tongue and eliciting a little pleased noise.
"That's nice... mm, do you want to hear about my mother right now?"
Gentle or not, having Nariko's mouth at her neck and body nestled against hers was slowly putting conversation out of mind. She was reserved by nature, and there was a part of her that didn't want to have to the wild one, but... she didn't need to extend that to making this into a competition, surely.
"Oh, I knew it!" Look, if Nariko was taller she'd absolutely look down shirts, if even politely and with some level of respect! And while it was a shame to lose whatever else might have been there it was traded for the genuine laughter that followed that question.
"No offense to your mom, but no. If I don't have the focus to make a terrible sex joke, I can't listen to you talk about your family." She really needed to put down her own glass of wine but instead she turns in a little, the couch is big enough to straddle Naal somewhat comfortably.
"You really are beautiful. Have I already said that?" She couldn't remember, but it's worth repeating anyway.
"You've gotten the idea across." The way Nariko looked at her was... nice. "It means a lot, from a woman who has such a sight in her mirror every morning."
Laying it on thick, maybe, but she meant it. Without taking her eyes off Nariko her hand found the glass and took it, setting it aside with her own. Then she had both hands on Nariko's thighs, sliding slowly up and bunching up Nariko's dress as they went. Her touch pressed insistently upward, drawing Nariko to her knees, face-to-face.
The second kiss she pressed to Nariko's lips was longer than their first. The third was harder.
Definitely thick, to the point that even Nariko wondered if she'd maybe come across a little too needy! But that was one split second of thought before she simply basked in said attention, relieved that the attraction definitely wasn't one-sided. A relieved noise followed the loss of her glass, she followed Naal's pull without a second though, pressing as close as she could without interrupting their kiss.
"Guess we're done-" Talking. The pressure was easy to meet, her tongue graced over Naal's lower lip, questioning. Her hands slid over both arms, feeling as much bare skin as possible, though one eventually flitted over and ear, fingers gently dipped into dark hair.
